Golf and Technology –> Perfect Combination??

I’m not really big on golf, but this really made me think twice about picking up golf as a hobby. What would you feel, as a golf player, having a PGA caddy at your fingertips. It shows the exact location on a golf hole as you play it, exact distances to the other golfers in front of you, water, sand hazards, the green and the pin? What are you going to say about that?

What would you feel if this tool shows you news headlines, sports scores, stock tickers, and even allows to order your lunch and beverafes from anywhere on a golf course? Or maybe provides internet connection so you can still contact your office by emails. You’ll get all these information on a piece of handheld, full-color display palmtop device mounted on your golf cart.

The company that is inventing this technology is Vancouver-based GPS Industries (Symbol: GPSN).

I’m not sure what else that I can tell you since it really blew me away when I found out about this. Thanks to Yahoo News, following are their press releases:

1. The Resort at Red Hawk, Nevada’s Best Golf Facility, Selects GPS Industries.

Above is their stock performance in the past 12 months. Look at the number of shares purchased between May 04 to Oct 04 - you can tell there weren’t a lot of demands between those 2 months. Starting in November 04, more people got interested in the stock. The number of shares purchased were going up for the next two months. Even from January to March 2005, there were a lot of transactions going on. A lot more demands compared to the previous year. Do you think this one can be a pontential good investment?

This is a pretty tough call. I really love their technology, but the stock doesn’t seem to perform as good as I was expecting. They probably need more exposure to their technology. Nonetheless, I think this stock is a pontential good long-term invesment. But definitely not a good short-term investment.

Another Investment Opportunity in Homeland Security

Global ePoint, Inc. (Symbol: GEPT) is a developer and manufacturer of industrial and commercial computer systems, digital video and audio surveillance solutions for the law enforcement, military, aviation, homeland security markets, industrial, and consumer markets. They operate through three business divisions: Aviation, Contract Manufacturing, and Digital Technology.

Recently they have announced new contracts totaling $5 million for advanced computer control technology for x-ray security systems that are going to be used in airports and other venues. These $5 million in purchase orders represent orders for computer control equipment from the two largest U.S. makers of conventional x-ray security scanning devices.

Last month they also announced announced an increasing number of orders to provide installation services of its next-generation AirWorks brand security and electronics products. What distinguishes them from other aircraft equipment vendors is they are able to deploy their installation teams worldwide, offering the customers options of using AirWorks installation specialist for equipment upgrades; thus, enables the airlines’ regular maintenance and service personnel to concentrate on their primary duties. They were also selected to provide installation services for Lufthansa, GermanWings, and Air Macao.

Below is their one year stock performance:

Looking at their one-year performance, I’d have to say it looks pretty discouraging. It was on the way up to $6/share in June/July 2004, but then it dropped in August and stayed stagnant (below $4/share) until December 2004 then it went up to $6/share and somehow it was slowly decreasing.

I don’t usually recommend poor perfoming penny stock but this one..Hmmm, not sure why, but I’ve got a feeling this one could be a good short-term investment (But not long-term though!). We shall see…I’m going to watch this one very close.

Markland Technologies, Inc. (Symbol: MRKLE) is a company that offers solutions in chemical detectors, advanced technologies, border security, and sensing technologies in the homeland security market. Their clientele ranges from U.S. Army, U.S. Navy to other U.S. intelligence agencies.

Here’s their one year historical chart:

Yup, I know…They once hit as high as $4.30 - $4.40/share then abruptly dropped to $1 - $2/share. It wasn’t really clear why the stock dropped considering the US increased their army spending budget around the same time when the price dropped.

Recently I checked their press releases on their site, and well looks like this company has gotten several big contracts in February 2005:

1. Markland Awarded Additional $2.8 Million in New Orders from U.S. Army under Multi-Year Contract.
Markland Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: MRKL - News; http://www.marklandtech.com), a defense and homeland security company transforming advanced laboratory technology into real-world products, announced today that the U.S. Army’s Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate (NVESD) has awarded the Company new orders for technology products and services totaling $2.8 million. They also announced an increase in second quarter revenues. Here’s the overview:

“Revenues for the quarter were $17,044,677 a significant increase over revenues for the corresponding period in 2003 of $3,256,771. Revenues for the six months ended December 31 2004 and 2003 were $32,814,528 and $3,563,495 respectively. This increase is due almost entirely to the acquisition of EOIR Technologies Inc. Net cash provided by operating activities for the six months ended December 31, 2004 was a positive $194,896, also a significant increase over the corresponding period in 2003 in which the company experienced negative net operating cash flow of $884,314. The operating loss for the quarter amounted to $4,412,710. This loss resulted primarily from non-cash charges for the compensatory element of stock issuances, losses on disposals of equipment and amortization of intangible assets resulting from our recent acquisitions. These non-cash charges amounted to $2,905,823 for the three months ended December 31, 2004.”

A Great Potential Investment in Wireless Technology

Its name is Network Installation Corp. (Symbol: NWKI).

They offer the design, installation, and deployment of wireless technology and specialized communication system to the Fortune 100, universities, government agencies, and others. Their services cover voice and video networks as well as wireless networks, Wi-Fi, WiMax, telecom, and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) applications.

Click here to see their stock performance since last April 2004 to March 2005.

As you see it yourself, the graph is moving upward, indicating the stock is performing very well; even though it’s showing turbulence along the way. Even in October 2004, the price literally jumped from 0.5 cents/share to somewhere around $1.3 - $1.5/share. I wonder what caused it to increase..Hmm..Looks like there was a big demand in October, even bigger demand in February 2005 which made the price keep moving up and finally hit $2 mark.

I have also found several company highlights on AllPennyStocks.com which look pretty impressive to me:

1. Announced Record revenue of $2,000,762 vs. $1,119,680 for the nine month period ending September 30, 2004 vs. September 30, 2003.

2. Announced record revenue for the quarter ended September 30, 2004 of $760,835 vs. $444,736 for the same quarter in 2003.

3. Has announced numerous WLAN, Wi-Fi and VoIP project wins in the past three months.

The project is valued at approximately $ 190,000.

5. Announced it was awarded multiple project orders valued at a minimum of $110,000 with the potential for an additional $100,000. Network Installation was awarded a project order for the deployment of a Wi-Fi network at Tustin Union School District in Orange County, CA. Additional new projects also include the installation of IT platforms for Poway Union School District in San Diego, Cambridge Schools in Citrus Heights, CA and Rancho Cordova, CA - based Octagon Risk Services, Inc.

6. Announced that it was awarded a wireless project from the City of Barstow, CA. 10. Announced that it was awarded an order from Providence, Rhode Island - based Narragansett Bay Commission for an Avaya 2400 Series telecommunications solution which can accommodate up to 157 users. The order is valued at approximately $46,000.

11. Acquired 100% of San Diego-based Del Mar Systems International Inc., a provider of integrated telecommunications solutions including VoIP applications.

12. Del Mar Systems has delivered communication solutions to many well known companies including General Electric, Western Digital, Bank of America, SAIC, Marriott, Holiday Inn, Sheraton and Hilton Hotels throughout the U.S.

I think by the end of this year, they’re probably going to hit $2.50 - $2.60/share. That’s just my guess, though. VoIP is big this year, even AOL is really taking it seriously. We’ll see what’s going to happen. I may have to put this under my radar.

Wireless Communication

Who? WebTech Wireless, Inc. (Symbol: CA:WEW)

It’s a communication company that offers wireless services such as GPS fleet tracking, navigation, internet services, etc. They utilize the technologies of GPS and wireless communications to deliver data services to fleets and motorists that WebTech has named the “Quadrant TM System”. They have developed and manufactured a Wireless Vehicle Services Solution that integrates GPS, wireless technologies and the Internet to seamlessly unify back office data and fleet operational data (location, performance, communications & activity). With WebTech’s Wireless Fleet Services, any fleet manager can track and communicate with their fleet and receive localized services such as navigation and emergency alerts. (Sources: their website and Directions Magazine)

Really, huh?? Yupp, they are even expanding globally to North America, Europe and the Middle East and serving fleets in over 37 countries.

Not bad. What else do you know about this company?
In March 2003, Land Air Express, one of North America’s leading full service expedited carriers serving 15 states and Canada, selected WebTech’s Quadrant System to achieve real-time monitoring of its fleet. The switch to WebTech’s “always-on” GPRS based system from a satellite-based system has driven down operating costs for Land Air and enhanced customer service for the cross-border business of Land Air’s Canadian based operator.
In July 2003, they were selected by STS LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dycom Industries, Inc (NYSE: DY), to deploy wireless fleet management services and enhance customer service with real-time reporting. STS is one of North America’s oldest provides of underground utility location services.

Impressive. Now Let’s talk about numbers. How was their performance in the last fiscal year 2004?
They were saying at the end of fiscal year (July 31st, 2004), the revenue increased by 92% compared to the previous year, subscriber revenue has also increased - 183% over the previous year, and total revenue has increased as well from 20.7% to 30.6%. They closed a $2.75 million equity financing, owns ZERO debt, a $500,000 line of credit ($0 drawn to date), and $15 million of cash in their balance sheet.

Currently they’re traded at 73 cents/share. There are three financial firms (Clarus Securities Inc., Acumen Capital Partners, and Toll Cross Securities Inc.) recommending BUY for this stock and predicting the price is going to hit $1/share sometime this year.

Since being traded at around 60 cents/share, the stock has been fluctuating a lot - dropped to around 45 cents/share, but then it was slowly getting up and hovered over at 80 cents/share. Even the volume has slowly been showing an increase since May 2004.

They’ve also recently announced that Motabei Electronics System Co. Ltd., a major application service provider in Saudi Arabia, has agreed to purchase Cdn$2.2 million in WebTech products and monthly subscriber services over a two year period from them. The agreement was made through WebTech Middle East LLC.

So, what do you think? At 73 cents/share, they’re close to hitting $1/share :)
Better make your decision quick, guys! Time is money!
